As a powerful typhoon approached villages and left at least eight people dead in the Philippines, Vietnamese authorities imposed a curfew and evacuated more than 800 thousand people.
VTV reported that the authorities had ordered residents near the coast, where Hurricane Nuru is expected to strike early Wednesday, to resort to safe havens, and ordered the closure of schools and the cancellation of public events.
In Da Nang and Kwang Nam districts, a curfew will be imposed from this evening, and television said the law prevents citizens from going out except for individuals performing official duties
Flights were cancelled at five regional airports and train service was discontinued until the hurricane ended
The meteorological agency said hurricane Nuru was accompanied by strong winds at a maximum speed of 180 kilometres per hour.
Police announced that the victims of Sunday's northern Philippines typhoon, including five rescuers, drowned in the town of San Miguel, Bulacan province, after their boat sank when it hit a collapsed wall, to fall into floodwaters.
Approximately 80 thousand people were transferred to emergency shelters, some forcibly, through the main island of Luzon, where many villages were flooded.
