Weather experts in Algeria warned of high temperatures across Algeria during the 2022 summer season, especially in the Tartar, Constantine, Bajaya, Qalma, Mileh, capital city and Skikda region

Several states of Algeria have experienced a severe heatwave of 45 degrees, prompting civil protection and forest protection interests to issue several warnings to citizens over the past week, to take caution and protect forests, in conjunction with several special fires in the east and north-east of the country.

According to testimonies from some citizens living in Qalah City, the conditions were normal until midday on Wednesday, reaching a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius, with strong winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour.

Owing to the dense forest nature of the area and the quality of trees found in the mountains of Algeria's eastern cities, especially the rapidly inflammatory "caltos" trees, the skies of those cities quickly turned lightning red in high winds and dust, causing blurred visibility and creating panic among people.

However, no one expected the situation to end. Yesterday, 26 people were killed by the bushfires before the toll rose to 38, including 11 children and 6 women, a figure that, according to official authorities.

On Thursday morning, the bodies of 5 victims of one family from his municipalities, Madawaroush, in the Market of Ahras governorate, were found.

The article alone recorded 24 victims, some of whom were on a tourist trip in the famous park of Brabatia.

According to Algerian official sources, the major fires in Tartar governorate, namely the coastal city of Qalala, were automatically extinguished by dawn on Thursday, leaving only one fire, which the city's protection interests, in cooperation with army forces and forest protection interests, are putting down by available physical and human means.

The Algerian Red Crescent has also formed a crisis cell to measure the damage caused by fires in the affected areas and to review the distribution of aid.

Convoys have begun to prepare to move towards relief in the affected areas, with several civil society associations announcing the organization of convoys of material and human assistance, and artals of civil protection fire trucks from the south and west moving towards Algeria's eastern cities.

Interior Minister Kamal Baljood stated that the failure of the Russian-chartered aircraft to extinguish the fires was due to a technical defect 3 days ago and will be repaired on Saturday.

The tragic events brought back memory of last year's events in the tribal area, where 69 people, including 28 soldiers, were killed and severely damaged the wooded areas.
