According to Palestinian human rights organizations, Israel has arrested 7,000 Palestinians from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip over the past year, including 882 children and 172 women.

The institutions of the prisoners and freedmen Affairs Authority, the Palestinian Prisoner Club, the Addameer foundation for prisoner care and Human Rights, and the Wadi Hilweh Center–Jerusalem added in their annual report that "the year 2022 was the bloodiest year, with an intensity of crimes and abuse, compared to the last ten years".

"In some cases, Israel has used family members as human shields and carried out arrests in order to pressure the pursuers to turn themselves in, including their brothers, friends, mothers, wives and Sons,"the institutions said in their report.

Last year, Israel launched a security operation called breakwater after a series of Palestinian militant attacks against its forces in the West Bank and Jewish settlers, which it said were aimed at arresting Palestinians planning attacks.

According to the report of the prisoner institutions, "the number of prisoners in the occupation prisons until the end of 2022 is (4700) prisoners, including (29) prisoners, (150) children, and about (850) administrative detainees, including (7) children, two prisoners, and(15) newspapers.

Israel uses an old British law that allows it to detain Palestinians without trial for a renewable period of three to six months on the grounds of the existence of a secret file of the detainee.

The report pointed out that"among the (330) prisoners, their detention exceeded more than 20 years, including (25) detainees since before the signing of the Oslo Agreement, and they are the old prisoners".

The report stated that the oldest detainees are "prisoners Karim Yunus and Maher Yunus, who have been continuously detained since 1983, and their sentences are ending this month".

The institutions said in their report that during the past year, "the occupation issued (2409) administrative arrest warrants".

"The number of administrative detainees today is about (850) administrative detainees, including (7) children and two families, noting that the number of administrative detainees was (500) detainees at the beginning of last year,"the report added.

"The number of administrative detainees is the highest in more than ten years,"the report said.

Israel arrests Palestinians from Gaza as they cross checkpoints into Israel or the occupied West Bank or fishermen from the Strip at sea.
