US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to commit to the cessation of hostilities in Karabakh.

State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said Pompeo had contacted both Pashinyan and Aliyev separately, and pressed them to commit to the cessation of hostilities and to seek a diplomatic solution to the Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Pompeo stressed that there is no military solution to this conflict, stressing the importance of full implementation of the ceasefire agreed upon in Moscow on October 10, and was reaffirmed in the statement issued by Paris on October 17, according to the joint statement issued on October 1, 2020 by US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
