The Iranian ambassador in Nouakchott met with the Mauritanian Minister of Defense, to discuss issues of combating terrorism in the Sahel region and ways to enhance defense cooperation between the two countries.

According to the media department of the Iranian embassy in Mauritania, during the meeting held by Ambassador Amir Ali Imam Jumah Shahidi, with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanna Ould Sididi, the two parties exchanged views on ways to strengthen and expand defense cooperation, pointing to the need to combat terrorism in the Sahel region.

The meeting also discussed Tehran's support for the programs of the five countries in the G5 Sahel region (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad) and other issues of concern to the two countries.
