Moscow announced that two employees of the Bulgarian embassy, two persona non grata in the country, were in response to the expulsion of two employees of the Russian trade mission in Sofia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said today that it has summoned the Bulgarian ambassador in Moscow Atanas Christine, where he was handed a memorandum from the ministry declaring that "two employees of the Bulgarian embassy in Moscow are persona non grata."
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that this step came as a completely similar response to the behavior of the Bulgarian authorities, who expelled without any justification two employees of the Russian Commercial Representation in Sofia in September of this year.
And the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry confirms that it expelled two Russian diplomats from the country, on suspicion of espionage.
In turn, the Russian embassy in Sofia stated that the Bulgarian side did not present any evidence confirming that they were carrying out activities that contradict their status there.
