The Bulgarian ambassador in Moscow, Atanas Christine, arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry building, after he was summoned there, against the backdrop of the expulsion of two employees of the Russian trade mission in Sofia.

Earlier, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said that it had expelled two Russian diplomats from the country, on suspicion of spying.

In turn, the Russian embassy in Sofia reported that Bulgaria has expelled from the country two employees of the Russian trade mission.

The embassy stressed that the Bulgarian side did not provide any evidence confirming their activities that contradict their status there.

The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, expressed her regret for the expulsion of two Russian diplomats from Bulgaria, describing the accusations against them as "fabricated", and confirmed that Russia would take response measures to that.
