French President Emmanuel Macron called on Thursday at the opening of the humanitarian conference on Gaza in Paris for the protection of civilians, a quick humanitarian
truce and" work for a ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas, while UN officials warned of the extension of the conflict in the region amid escalating violence in the West Bank.

UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths said the conflict in Gaza could spread to the
rest of the region, adding that it would be a "farce"to allow the status quo in the Strip to
continue. "The UN cannot be part of a unilateral proposal to push the Palestinians into so-
called safe zones,"he said.
For his part, the commissioner-general of the UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, expressed concern
about the risk of the situation in Gaza widening, adding that the West Bank is "boiling".
There is a need to continue the effective delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including
fuel, he said, adding that the aid entering through Rafah is insufficient, and all crossings to
Gaza must be opened.
Palestinian prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said at the conference that Palestinians
need international protection in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem, adding that
international human rights law is being violated and war crimes are being committed. He
added that Israel is not waging war on" Hamas " but on all Palestinians.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said today that eight Palestinians were killed and 14 others
were injured in a raid by Israeli forces on the city and refugee camp of Jenin in the West
Bank. The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out "anti-terrorism" raids in Jenin but
gave no further details.
Violent battles are taking place on the streets of Gaza City, where the Israeli army
announced its advance, while elements of the "Hamas" movement used tunnels to ambush
Israeli forces.
The Israeli army said on Thursday that it had taken control of a Hamas stronghold west of
Jabalia camp after 10 hours of fighting with elements of the movement and elements of
the"Islamic Jihad movement". He added that he killed dozens of them and identified the
locations of several weapons and revealed the entrances to tunnels, one of which is near a
kindergarten, as well as finding combat plans for"Hamas", according to him.
In a tweet on the website "X", the Israeli army said that it has so far destroyed 130 entrances
to the tunnels since the beginning of the war.
The "Qassam Brigades", the military wing of Hamas, published on Wednesday a video that
apparently shows fierce street battles amid bombed buildings in Gaza City.
As the war entered its second month, Washington began discussing with Israeli and Arab
leaders the future of the Gaza Strip without the rule of "Hamas", stressing at the same time
that the Palestinians should rule the Strip after the war, after statements by Israel that it
would control security in Gaza indefinitely.
