 Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. He made it clear that “Palestinians must

 not be forcibly displaced,” a State Department spokesperson said.

An Israeli strike on the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in the Gaza Strip early Sunday killed at least

 47 people and wounded dozens, the Gaza health ministry said in a statement.

The attack came as Israel said it would press on with its offensive in Gaza despite appeals

 from the U.S. and other nations for a pause in fighting to get aid to desperate civilians there.

More than 1.4 million people have been displaced in Gaza, and health officials there say

 more than 9,700 have died.
