China on Saturday called on the United States to play a "constructive and responsible" role in relation to the bloody war that broke out a week ago between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip .

According to France 24, this invitation came during a telephone call between the foreign ministers of the two countries today, in which Beijing stressed the need to" push the issue to a path leading to a political settlement as soon as possible".

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said today, during a telephone conversation with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken, that Washington should "play a constructive and responsible role" regarding the ongoing war between the Palestinian resistance and Israel.

"The United States should practically play a constructive and responsible role, to push the issue to a path to a political settlement as soon as possible," Wang told Blinken, according to a statement published by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"When dealing with hot international issues, major countries should adhere to objectivity and impartiality, maintain calm and restraint, and take the lead in adhering to international law,"Wang also said.

He explained that Beijing had called for"an international peace meeting to be held as soon as possible to promote a broad-based consensus". "The main way out of the Palestinian issue lies in the implementation of the two-state solution,"he said.
