During a joint press conference in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry  met with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, the foreign ministers of Egypt and Turkey said that there is a common vision of the two countries to stop the current war between Israel and Hamas, with a focus on overcoming the humanitarian consequences of the crisis, with the radical solution to the conflict being the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

He said Sameh Shoukry:

The developments in Gaza have largely overshadowed the talks with his Turkish counterpart.

There is a common vision between us on the importance of working to overcome the extremely serious humanitarian consequences that are falling on the Palestinian people in Gaza, contain this conflict, fully comply with the rules of international humanitarian law and not endanger civilians from any side.

After this crisis is contained, we will contribute to ending the occupation and establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The continuation of the occupation and the lack of political prospects exacerbate the situation, and we have witnessed in the past the escalation of the conflict towards military actions, on the ground that the Palestinian people do not get their legitimate rights.

For his part, Hakan Fidan said:

We refuse to deport Palestinians to Egypt.

We call for the need to bring humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

We call on Israel to abide by international law and humanitarian values.

We oppose the expansion of fighting geographically and we are in contact with countries that carry these ideas.

Without peace, security cannot be established in the true sense.

We reject attacks on civilians and call for a lasting and just solution to the Palestinian issue.

The Palestinian issue is an issue on which Egypt and Turkey share a common position.

We reject the targeting of civilians and the killing of civilians by any party must be prevented, but the main issue is to reach a comprehensive and just solution in Palestine, and Israel's practices such as settlements and practices in the Al-Aqsa Mosque all lead to the deepening of the occupation.

We in Egypt and Turkey think that the good solution is the two-state solution.

Some states are trying to show reprisals as legitimate, and this distorted and inhumane approach leads to much more violence.
