At a crucial moment in the game of alliances against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, US President Joe Biden on Thursday begins an Asian tour, starting from India to participate in the group of twenty summit, after which he will head to Vietnam on Sunday to meet with the leader of the Communist Party that holds power in the country Nguyen Phu Trong, as well as other leaders, in order to counter China's influence in the region as well.

The visit of the 80-year-old US president comes at a time when China's influence is rising and is increasingly challenging the American superpower.

Biden is scheduled to leave the White House around 20.45 pm GMT to head to the US base in Ramstein, Germany, before moving to New Delhi on Friday.

The US president will take center stage at the group of twenty summit in New Delhi on Saturday and Sunday, in the absence of the two leaders, Chinese Xi Jinping and Russian Vladimir Putin.

Biden intends to use the summit, chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to prove that the bloc remains the main forum for global economic cooperation, despite its divisions.

This is a way to send a message to Beijing and to emerging rival alliances, including the "BRICS" Alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa).

Joe Biden said last week that he was "disappointed" that Chinese President Xi would be absent from the summit, where he will be represented by Premier Li Keqiang.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan said Biden would discuss" a series of joint efforts to address global problems,"including climate change and" mitigating the economic and social consequences of the Russian war in Ukraine " affecting the poorest countries.

"He is committed to working with partners in emerging markets to achieve great things together . That's what the world will see in New Delhi this weekend,"he said.

He will also call for strengthening the financing capacities of the IMF and the World Bank.

Biden's program immediately after his arrival in New Delhi on Friday includes a bilateral meeting with the Indian prime minister, whom the US president received with a huge ovation in June at the White House.

The United States is strengthening its ties with India to stand up to China as New Delhi seeks to establish a leading international role.

This comes despite their differences on Russia, as India did not comply with the sanctions imposed on Moscow after the invasion of Ukraine, and their differences on respect for Human Rights.

On the other hand, Joe Biden will travel to Vietnam on Sunday to meet with the leader of the Communist Party, which is in power in the country

Relations between the United States and Vietnam have strengthened in recent years, including in the military and economic spheres, as the countries are largely reconciled despite the scars of war.

Joe Biden recently received the prime minister of Japan and the president of South Korea at an unprecedented summit.
