British media quoted Defense Minister Ben Wallace as saying that he responded to a list of requests for military equipment submitted to him by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during the NATO summit in Lithuania, with"we are not Amazon," referring to the giant online store.

Wallace said that he warned the Ukrainians that the international community wants to see "gratitude" for its support in the war with Russia, he said, "whether we like it or not people want to see gratitude," Ben Wallace added that the countries have provided a lot of supplies to Ukraine in the 500 days since the conflict began.

NATO members yesterday tried to give guarantees to Kiev by asserting that " Ukraine's future is in NATO," but far from the expectations of its president Volodymyr Zelensky, who demanded that the alliance set a timetable for his country's accession to it.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Ukraine's accession to NATO during the conflict will not happen "because it will lead to the outbreak of a war between the United States and Russia".

"It would be inappropriate to accept Ukraine into NATO, because that would mean the United States entering the war with Russia, President Biden has made it clear from the very beginning that as long as he leads (the US administration), this will not happen,"Miller said at a press conference.

Expressing disappointment that Ukraine was not invited to join NATO, Zelensky told his supporters in the Lithuanian capital, " is this an exaggerated wish?"".

Shortly before Zelensky's speech, the leaders had agreed that NATO would extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the military alliance when "the members agree and the conditions are met".

Earlier, Zelensky said it would be "absurd" if NATO leaders did not offer his country a time frame for membership.

NATO members in eastern Europe supported Kiev's position, saying that placing Ukraine under the umbrella of the alliance's collective security is the best way to deter Russia from attacking again.

Countries such as the United States and Germany have been more cautious, fearing that any move would drag NATO into direct conflict with Russia.

In a related context, the British government said that it will provide Ukraine with more than 70 combat and logistics vehicles, thousands of shells for "Challenger 2" tanks and a support package of 50 million pounds sterling (64.7 million dollars) for the repair of military equipment.

Britain said on Wednesday that the members of the group of seven were expected to sign a new framework agreement on Wednesday that will provide Ukraine with long-term bilateral security commitments, details of which will be announced later.

In addition to the support package, Britain will also launch a project through NATO to establish a medical rehabilitation center for Ukrainian soldiers, which will be funded through the Comprehensive Assistance package allocated by the alliance to Ukraine.
