The summit aims to "develop effective mechanisms with the participation of neighboring countries to resolve the crisis in Sudan peacefully, in coordination with other regional and international tracks to resolve the crisis,"the presidency added in a statement.

Egypt has close ties with the Sudanese army, which is fighting the paramilitary Rapid Support forces (RSF) in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan.

Egypt did not participate in the talks led by the United States and Saudi Arabia in the city of Jeddah, which were postponed last month after the failure to achieve a permanent ceasefire.

For its part, the United Nations warned on Sunday that Sudan is "on the brink of a full-scale civil war" that could destabilize the entire region, the day after an airstrike on Omdurman in the western suburb of Greater Khartoum resulted in at least 22 dead and dozens injured.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced that "the ongoing war between the Armed Forces has pushed Sudan to the brink of an all-out civil war that could destabilize the entire region," according to his deputy spokesman Farhan Haq, in a statement.

Guterres condemned"the airstrike in Omdurman, Sudan, which reportedly killed at least 22 people".

The Ministry of health of Khartoum State announced in a statement on Saturday that a bombing by military aircraft killed 22 citizens and left a large number of injured" in the Dar es Salaam Amiriya area in Omdurman.

Since April 15, Sudan has been witnessing battles between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support forces led by Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, known as "hemedti".

The fighting is concentrated in the capital Khartoum and nearby areas, as well as the Darfur region, where the United Nations has warned that what it is witnessing may amount to "crimes against humanity" and the conflict is increasingly taking on ethnic dimensions.

Guterres expressed his " concern over reports of renewed fighting in the states of North Kordofan, South Kordofan and Blue Nile," denouncing"complete disregard for humanitarian and Human Rights Law," and reiterated his call for a cessation of hostilities and"commitment to a permanent cessation of hostilities".

The city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, witnessed clashes between Burhan's forces and Daglo's forces on Saturday night, according to eyewitnesses.

Last Friday, residents from the city of Bara, 50 kilometers northeast of al-Obeid, reported that "Rapid Support forces are attacking the city of Bara, banks and government facilities".

The parties to the conflict concluded more than one truce, often brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia, which was soon violated.

The African Union and the East African Development organization "IGAD" are also trying to mediate a solution to the crisis in Sudan.

In this context, the spokesman of the Executive Secretary of the organization, Nour Mahmoud Sheikh, said last Friday that"an IGAD meeting of the heads of state and government of the quartet mechanism on Sudan is scheduled to be held in Addis Ababa tomorrow, Monday".

Even before the outbreak of the war, Sudan was considered one of the poorest countries in the world, with 25 million people, representing more than half of the population, in need of humanitarian assistance and protection, according to the United Nations.
