To this end, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that Egypt and Turkey have raised their diplomatic relations to the level of ambassadors, and that Egypt has nominated Ambassador Amr al-Hammami as its ambassador in Ankara, while Turkey nominated ambassador Saleh Mutlu Shen as its ambassador in Cairo.

The Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement on its official Facebook page: "the upgrade of diplomatic relations between the two countries comes within the framework of the implementation of the decision of the presidents of the two countries in this regard.

The ministry added: "This step aims to establish normal relations between the two countries again, and also reflects their joint determination to work towards strengthening their bilateral relations for the benefit of the Egyptian and Turkish peoples.

For its part, the Turkish Anadolu news agency confirmed via its Twitter account on Tuesday that "Turkey and Egypt announce the lifting of diplomatic relations between them to the level of ambassadors".
