The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the United States initiated the provocation during an incident in which a Chinese warship was seen crossing in front of a US ship during a joint exercise with Canada.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a regular press conference: "the measures taken by the Chinese military are necessary to respond to the provocations of the country in question (the United States), and they are quite logical, legitimate, safe and professional measures.

Wang added that China" strongly opposes " the creation of problems by America "in the Taiwan Strait region" and "always respects" and supports freedom of navigation.

The United States accused a Chinese warship of crossing in front of an American ship that was participating in joint exercises with the Canadian Navy in the Taiwan Strait, forcing the American ship to slow down to avoid a collision.
