The Kremlin representative said ;

Russia had followed the "important talks" between Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, but expressed skepticism that China would change its position on the Ukraine conflict under external pressure.

China has proposed a "peace plan" for Ukraine, Beijing's first major diplomatic involvement in the conflict, but Kyiv and some Western leaders remain suspicious of Xi's close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday that the Kremlin was closely following the talks between the European Union and China, but emphasized that Russia had "deep ties" with Beijing.

"China is a very weighty power, a big power...and it's not the kind that changes positions quickly under external influence," Peskov said when asked if Russia was concerned that Europe might influence Xi's stance on Ukraine.

After the talks, Xi expressed his willingness to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky directly, von der Leyen said, while Macron said he urged Beijing to "bring Russia to its senses."
