The head of the Japanese Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Koji Yamazaki, and the commander of the American Command of the Pacific, Admiral John Aquilino on Monday, confirmed on Monday that the Japanese -American alliance "is stronger than ever and still exists."

The Japanese Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the alliance between the two countries "is a cornerstone for Japan's security in the cruelest and most complicated security environments since World War II."

This comes after meetings by the American and Japanese sides in Tokyo to exchange views on the horizons of joint security talks between the two countries known as (2+2) of the Japanese -American Consulting Committee announced last January and specialized in implementing the national security and national defense strategy.

The two parties agreed to deepen defense cooperation based on the enhancement of the Japanese defense capabilities in order to enhance deterrence capabilities and respond to the Japanese -American alliance.
