In a response to the Western countries' decision of sending tanks and other fighter jets to Kyiv, Moscow commented today that this decision let them be a part of the conflict.

After Berlin and Washington agreed to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams tanks, today also the UK agreed to supply Kyiv with Challenger 2 tanks.

"European capitals and Washington constantly make statements that sending various types of weapons, including tanks, means their involvement in the fighting,".
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

We have a completely different opinion on this. In Moscow, this is perceived as direct involvement in the conflict and that is increasing," he said.

"There are always statements from European capitals and Washington that they will send various weapons systems to Ukraine, including tanks, which indicates the involvement of these countries or NATO in hostilities in Ukraine. We totally disagree with this," he said.

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden said the tanks posed no" offensive threat "to Russia and were needed to help Ukrainians" improve their ability to maneuver in the open territory".

Kyiv is seeking hundreds of modern tanks to equip its troops with the strength to break through Russian defense lines and regain occupied territories in the south and East. Ukraine and Russia rely mainly on Soviet-era T-72 and T-80 tanks.

In this context, Reuters quoted the head of the Russian National Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev said that ;
The United States and NATO are part of the conflict in Ukraine, and they sought to prolong the conflict.

Patrushev, who is one of the most prominent allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that what is happening in Ukraine today is the result of a "hybrid war" waged by the West for many years against Russia.
