On the same day that the United States pledged to supply Kiev with Bradley Fighting Vehicles
A day after a similar announcement by France, Germany announced last week that it would supply Ukraine with mardir combat vehicles to help repel Russian troops.
However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he was still convinced of the need to coordinate the delivery of weapons to Ukraine with the allies, as pressure mounts on Berlin to send Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev.
Schulz, who has often stressed the importance of not escalating the conflict in Ukraine or giving Russia a reason to consider Germany as a party to the war, said the Western allies had spent "a lot of time preparing, discussing and organizing for this".
Kiev has also ordered combat vehicles such as the leopard, which will mark a significant increase in Western support for Ukraine.
"Germany will not act alone," Schulz said at a rally of his Social Democratic Party... Germany will always remain united with its friends and allies ... Anything else would be irresponsible in such a serious situation,"he said.
Germany has become one of the largest military supporters of Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion. However, critics say that Schulz and the ruling SPD are too slow, waiting for the allies to act first instead of taking responsibility for Germany as the Western Power closest to Ukraine.
