Ukrainian capital Kiev at dawn on Monday, which necessitated declaring a state of alert before lifting it a few hours later, following dozens of Russian strikes before and immediately after New Year's Eve that killed at least five and injured dozens.
The head of the military administration in Kiev, Sergei Popko, addressed the residents via telegram, saying "stay in shelters". "Air defenses are on, balconies and windows of a skyscraper have been damaged" in the northeast of the city, he added.
For his part, the official of the regional military administration Oleksiy kuliba said that "the Russians launched several squadrons of Iranian-made Shahid-type marches", explaining that the strikes were aimed at "basic infrastructure".
Kiev mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that a 19-year-old man was injured by shards of glass.
Ukrainian air defenses confirmed that they shot down 47 Russian drones and missiles.
Ukraine's private electricity company DTEK said the attack had caused "damage" to facilities supplying electricity to Kiev, leading to a power outage.
The National Electricity Company "okrinergo" confirmed the power outage, noting that the situation is "completely under control".
For its part, the Russian authorities announced on Monday a Ukrainian drone attack on an energy facility in the Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine, and confirmed that they shot down a Ukrainian reconnaissance flight that was heading this time to the big city of Voronezh.
"An electrical facility was damaged by this strike, and there is a village without electricity,"said the governor of the region Alexander bogomaz.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian authorities announced a toll of four dead and 50 injured in Russian strikes launched just before and after New Year's day, targeting Kiev and seven other regions.
For its part, Moscow confirmed that it had targeted March manufacturing facilities.
The Ukrainian Air Force also announced the shooting down of 45 marching "witnesses" on Saturday-Sunday night.
Later on Sunday evening, the Ukrainian Army General Staff announced that "the enemy carried out 35 air strikes using the March +witness 136+," confirming the destruction of all the marches launched by Russia.
President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on Sunday evening that the Russians are " losing. Marches, rockets and everything else will not help them, because we are together,"he said. "They will not take away our independence from us. We're not giving them anything. We will respond to every Russian strike on all our cities and residents,"he said.
Pro-Russian separatist authorities in eastern Ukraine reported Ukrainian shelling before and after the new year, killing and injuring at least 15.
On the other hand, the Russian military announced the continuation of its offensive on the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, where most of the fighting is currently concentrated.
In this regard, the Ukrainian General Staff said on Sunday evening that "the enemy continued to try to launch attacks in the area of Bakhmut," the city that the Russians have been trying to control for more than six months and where both camps are suffering heavy losses.
