More than 10 months after the start of the Russian military operation, Ukraine on Monday called for Russia to be excluded from the United Nations, a demand that has no chance of success given Moscow's veto power in the UN Security Council.

"Ukraine calls on the UN member states to deprive the Russian Federation of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and completely exclude it from the UN,"the Ukrainian foreign ministry said in a statement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had said that his country was ready to negotiate with all parties to the Ukrainian conflict, but returned to say that Kiev and its Western backers refused to engage in talks.

Putin stated in an interview with the official channel "Russia 1" on Sunday:

We are ready to negotiate with all interested parties on acceptable solutions, but it's up to them, we are not the ones who refuse to negotiate, but they are the ones who reject it.

He added that his country is moving in the right direction in Ukraine because the West, led by the United States, is trying to divide Russia.

I believe that we are moving in the right direction, defending our national interests, the interests of our compatriots and people, and we have no other choice but to protect our compatriots.

Deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that the world was" on the brink of a third World War and a nuclear catastrophe", but said that"Moscow will do everything possible to prevent this war and this catastrophe".

In an article published by the state newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta on Sunday, he said that "if Russia does not receive appropriate guarantees, the tension will continue indefinitely".

He wrote in the article titled "Our people. Our land. Our truth":" the world will continue to be on the brink of a third World War and a nuclear catastrophe", but"we will do everything to prevent them".

The former Russian President stated that Moscow "does not need to negotiate with the West, and now there can be no talk of trust," considering that "attempts to expand NATO to the East were a preparation for war with Russia".

Medvedev continued: "the expansion of NATO to the East and the preparations for confrontation were actually a preparation for war with Russia. They didn't stop for a minute, it's endless muddy streams of sarcastic lies".

According to the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, "the crisis of public confidence in Western countries, which are trying to confiscate Russian assets and impose new sanctions with the stroke of a pen, is also obvious".

"For years, perhaps decades to come, we can forget about normal relations with the West. This is not our choice. Now we will do without them until a new generation of sensible politicians comes to power there. Let's be careful and vigilant. We will develop our relations with the rest of the world".
