US President Joe Biden receives his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on his first foreign visit since the start of the war between his country and Russia on February 24, where he is scheduled to address Congress later.

White House press secretary Karen Jean-Pierre pointed out that Biden will announce during the meeting a new "substantial" assistance to Ukraine, which, according to leaks and preliminary information, will include the advanced Patriot system.

Pierre stressed that the visit confirms the continued support of the United States for Kiev "as long as necessary".

Earlier, the Ukrainian president had posted a tweet in which he confirmed that he was on his way to Washington to hold talks with his American counterpart and deliver a speech in the House of Representatives.

"On my way to the United States to strengthen Ukraine's resilience and defense capabilities," he tweeted.

For his part, the US President's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said: "Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is visiting the White House, at the invitation of US President Joe Biden," stressing that "Biden will announce during this visit a new package of additional US assistance to Ukraine worth two billion dollars, including Patriot air defense systems.

On the other hand, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the Ukrainian President's position will not become more positive after visiting Washington regarding the negotiation process with Moscow.

Peskov responded to a question about whether Kiev's attitude towards the negotiation process would change after the visit, saying "I don't think", negatively answering whether there were any positive expectations from her.

US officials said that the United States will announce the sending of a huge aid package worth 1.8 billion dollars of military aid to Ukraine and will include for the first time a battery of Patriot missiles and precision-guided bombs for its fighter jets, which may result in violent Russian reactions, especially since the Kremlin considered a few days ago that Patriot systems would be a legitimate target for Russian forces if supplied to Ukraine.

While analysts believe that the visit will include an inventory of the closed rooms of the war, its repercussions and prospects, it may constitute a station for reassessment, revision and search for diplomatic ways and compromises to end the bloody conflict.

Other analysts believe that the visit, with its high symbolism, will be a strong boost to the Ukrainian position refusing to bow to the Russian fait accompli, and in this sense it may mark the escalation of the war, which is almost completing its first year.

It is worth noting that the last meeting that brought Biden and Zelensky together took place on September 1 last year, at the White House, where the then US president pledged to support Kiev in confronting Moscow.
