French President Emmanuel Macron, after his talks with US President Joe Biden, whom he received at the White House last Thursday, said that the West will not put pressure on Ukraine to force it to negotiate with Russia.
French President Emmanuel Macron stressed today that"the future security architecture in Europe must include guarantees for Russia".
Macron said, during an interview conducted by the TF1 channel:
"We should think about the security structure under which we will live tomorrow, we are talking in particular about the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that NATO is approaching Russia's borders, deploying weapons that could threaten it," he said.
"This issue will be part of the discussions on peace, and we need to prepare for what will happen after the Ukrainian conflict and think about how to protect our allies, and at the same time give Russia security guarantees when the return to the negotiating table takes place,"he added.
Macron expressed a desire to talk with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin after a conversation with the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, to discuss the situation in the field of civil nuclear energy in Ukraine.
"We will never put pressure on Ukraine to make concessions, which is unacceptable for it,"Macron said during a joint press conference with Biden in Washington, answering a question about whether he and Biden discussed the possibility of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, taking into account the hardships of the winter and the energy crisis.
Earlier, the Washington Post reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden asked the Ukrainian leadership to show its openness to negotiations with Russia.
Ukraine has received billions in financial and military aid from Western countries, led by the United States, Britain and other European countries, since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine on February 24.
Western countries, through the material, military and political support they provide to Kiev, seek to impede the goals of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, but Moscow has stressed on more than one occasion that military operations in the Donbass will stop only after all the tasks assigned to it have been achieved.
