In a decision that came despite the refusal of the US administration to take this step , and in a step that increases the level of tension between Moscow and the West, the

European Parliament adopted a resolution deeming Russia a "state sponsor of terrorism" and calling for measures to impose comprehensive international isolation on Russia, reduce diplomatic relations and ban Russian state institutions.

The US administration has considered it useless in the current situation to classify Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, ruling out complying with calls in this regard by Kiev and US lawmakers.

Immediately after his announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the decision, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro kuliba, on Twitter, thanked the European Parliament for its clear position, while Moscow reacted angrily, as foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on the Telegram application: "I propose to classify the European Parliament as a patron of stupidity.

The European Parliament adopted the resolution in light of what it called"deliberate attacks and atrocities committed by Russian forces and their proxies against civilians in Ukraine, as well as the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and other serious violations of international and humanitarian law, amounting to acts of terrorism and constituting war crimes".

The European Parliament also called on the EU and member states to develop the appropriate legal framework and consider adding Russia to such a list.

The non-binding resolution was adopted by 494 votes in favor, 58 rejected the resolution, while 44 abstained from voting.
