Following the withdrawal of Russian troops from it, after Kherson became the hands of the Ukrainian army, Kiev began what it called"stabilization measures and the search for Russian soldiers who took off their uniforms and hid among civilians".

Moscow's control over Kherson, the only regional capital captured by the Russian army in the war, ended on Friday, knowing that it fell into the hands of the Russians at the beginning of the war that broke out in late February.

Ukrainian intelligence said it believed that some Russian soldiers stayed behind and abandoned their military uniforms by wearing civilian clothes to avoid detection, as reported by The "Associated Press"

Stabilization operations usually take place after the military takes control of civilian areas that were in the hands of enemies, but the Ukrainian authorities did not elaborate further.

The Ukrainian move regarding the search for undercover soldiers is due to several reasons::

About 70 percent of the greater Kherson region is still under Russian control.

The troops of Russia retreated to the Eastern Bank of the Dnieper from Kherson, that is, they did not go far from the city.

There are concerns that the Russian withdrawal could be a trap.

Photos have circulated showing Ukrainians removing memorial plaques erected by pro-Russian authorities in recent months.

"Even while the city has not been completely cleared of the presence of the enemy, the people of Kherson themselves are already removing Russian symbols and any traces of the occupiers in the city from the streets and buildings,"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video statement on Friday evening.

Moscow's announcement of the intention of Russian troops to withdraw across the Dnieper River, which divides the Kherson region and Ukraine, followed an intensive Ukrainian counteroffensive.

In the past two months, the Ukrainian military has claimed to have recaptured dozens of towns and villages north of the city of Kherson.

The Russian withdrawal marks a major setback for the Kremlin almost six weeks after it annexed the Kherson region and three other regions in southern and eastern Ukraine, in violation of international law.

An official of the Kremlin-appointed administration in Kherson was quoted by Russia's TASS news agency as saying on Saturday that khenchesk, a city on the sea of Azov 200 kilometers southeast of Kherson, would serve as the "temporary capital" of the region after the withdrawal across the Dnieper River.

Despite the progress made in Kherson, other parts of Ukraine continue to face civilian casualties, energy shortages and other repercussions of Russian military offensives.

The constant Russian pressure for control over Bakhmut shows the Kremlin's desire to make gains after weeks of obvious setbacks.

The capture of the city will open the way for a possible offensive on other Ukrainian strongholds in the hotly contested Donetsk region.

A renewed offensive in the East could derail Kiev's continued advance in the South.
