In a statement leaving open the door to Putin's participation in the G20 leaders summit, the Russian Kremlin presidency said that President Vladimir Putin's participation in the summit was subject to several considerations, before confirming his participation in the summit.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained in remarks reported by Russian media that the most prominent consideration was President Putin's personal security.

Without mentioning what was said by Peskov: "There are things that need to be taken into account, including security considerations, before the final decision on Putin's participation in the G-20 summit is taken."

The 20 summit is scheduled to be held on the Indonesian island of Bali next November.

If Putin takes part, it will be the first international event to meet face-to-face with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, and the Western leaders who interrupted him following the outbreak of the Ukraine war.

Last July, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov participated in the summit's preliminary meetings, which were also attended by his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken.

Since the outbreak of Ukraine's war on 24 February, Putin has traveled outside Russian territory several times, to countries such as Iran, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, which have close ties with Russia.

Putin's movements in public and around the world are surrounded by high security measures, with an estimated 9 thousand guards.
