China's Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Han Hui, in an interview with Russia's official TASS news agency, accused Washington of putting Russia in a difficult position with repeated NATO expansions "NATO" and supporting forces seeking to align Ukraine with the EU rather than Moscow.
"As the first and main instigator of the Ukrainian crisis, Washington continues to supply weapons and military materiel to Ukraine, while imposing unprecedented comprehensive sanctions on Russia," Zhang said.
"Its ultimate goal is to overwhelm and crush Russia with a long war and a cudgel of sanctions." According to Reuters.
Zhang said China-Russia relations had entered "the best period in history, characterized by the highest level of mutual trust, the highest degree of interaction and the greatest strategic importance."
The Chinese official criticized U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit last week to Taiwan, which China considers its subsidiary, and said the United States was trying to apply the same methods in Ukraine and Taiwan to "revive the Cold War mentality, curb China and Russia, and provoke competition and confrontation between major powers."
Zhang said that "non-interference in internal affairs is the most important principle for maintaining peace and stability in our world", applying this principle to criticize Washington's policy on Taiwan, but not the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
