After imposing a ban on the transit of goods to the Russian province of Kaliningrad, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia was considering
various options to respond to the unfriendly steps of Lithuania
"Moscow is convinced that these illegal sanctions adopted by the European Union are not fully applicable in this case", Peskov said, noting that "sanctions for transit to Kaliningrad and vice versa are simply incompatible with basic documents".
Wendy Sherman, the deputy secretary of state of the United States, said that the United States had confirmed during its contacts with Russian officials that it understood Russia's legitimate security concerns and was ready to address them.
Lithuania's imposition of restrictions on the movement of goods to the Russian province of Kaliningrad is reportedly contrary to agreements between Russia and the European Union.
Consequently, Russia will not allow a boycott and use all diplomatic methods to exhaust it, followed by a possible military response and a phrase of disembarking troops on the Lithuanian-Polish and Kaliningrad borders, thus opening the crossing by force if diplomatic negotiations fail.
