In reassuring worried allies of Russian - Ukrainian tension, a Polish army spokesman announced that the transfer of American reinforcements to Poland had begun.

Adding that the bulk of the American battalion of 1,700 troops "will arrive soon," Major Bergenslav Lechinsky said: "The vanguard of soldiers arrived at Yesunka Airport, south-east of the country."

Logistical preparations had "begun since last week." Saturday, an airplane with soldiers from the US 82nd Airborne Division landed on Yesunka.

In the midst of diplomatic attempts to persuade Moscow to withdraw its troops on Ukraine's borders, the United States announced Wednesday, sending an additional 3 thousand United States troops to Eastern Europe, to defend NATO States "from aggression."

The new US forces add to the 8,500 troops put in place by US President Joe Biden on alert, the end of January, to be deployed to the NATO Rapid Reaction Force if necessary.

Westerners have been accusing Moscow since the end of 2021 of mobilizing thousands of troops on Ukraine's borders, in preparation for a possible invasion, which Russia denies, stating that it is "merely seeking to ensure its security."
