After a six-year hiatus, since the attack on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad, Iran has sent 3 diplomats to the Saudi city of Jeddah to begin their work within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Last year, Saudi Arabia and Iran began direct talks, calling them cordial and exploratory, while an Iranian official said in October that the two sides had "gone a long way."
Two days ago, an Iranian parliamentary revealed that his country and Saudi Arabia were seeking to revive diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies.
On his Twitter account, member of the National Security Committee for Foreign Policy of the Iranian parliament, Jalil Rahimi Jahan - Abadi, wrote that Tehran and Riyadh are working to revive their "important relations" and prepare the ground for the reopening of their embassies.
Ra added: "This step will have important implications for reducing regional tensions and promoting solidarity among Islamic States."
Last week, Iran called for a comprehensive regional dialogue involving Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey to address the problems of the Middle East, confirming its willingness to re-establish relations with Riyadh.
