Today, the Foreign Minister of Israel, Yair Lapid, discussed regional issues with President Emmanuel Macron of France, stressing the importance of exerting European pressure on Iran, under the ongoing nuclear talks in Vienna.
Lapid and Macron have spoken by telephone about relations between Israel and the European Union. The Israeli official congratulated President Macron on the start of France's term as President of the Council of the Union.
During the phone call between the parties, Macron confirmed France's commitment to the security of Israel and the importance of relations between the two countries.
Last December, Lapid met with President Emmanuel Macron of France, and discussed with him the resumption of nuclear talks in Vienna with Iran.
Following the Macron meeting, Lapid said that "after many years Israel's position has become heard and firm," stressing that "sanctions on Iran must not be lifted."
"Sanctions must be tightened, and we must impose a real military threat on Iran, because that will only prevent it from continuing the nuclear arms race."
