United Nations spokesman Stefan Dujarek stated today that United Nations Secretary - General Antonio Guterich is following with concern the unrest in Kazakhstan.

"It is clear that we are following with concern and monitoring the situation in Kazakhstan, it is very important for all those involved in these ongoing events to exercise restraint, refrain from violence and promote dialogue in addressing all relevant issues," Dujarek said in his statement.

Dojarek added that the United Nations was in contact with its office in Kazakhstan and there had been no security threats to its staff, and earlier today Kazakhstan had declared a nationwide state of emergency amid ongoing anti-government protests triggered by increased liquefied gas prices.

Guterich urged all concerned to exercise restraint and avoid violence.
