The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Vice-President of the European Union, Josep Burrell, stressed that the security and

prosperity of Europe are fundamentally linked to the security and prosperity of Libya and that he is convinced and confident of the importance of working and coordinating with Libya to achieve common objectives that guarantee mutual interests between the two sides.

One Libyan news agency reported that this was in a letter to Moses Elkouni, Deputy of the Libyan Presidential Council, received by the Ambassador of the European Union to Libya, José Sadiq, who held a bilateral consultation session.

In his letter, Burrell expressed appreciation for the outcome of the talks led by Elcone in Brussels with senior Union officials on the exchange of extremely important views towards the elaboration of a strategy for joint action and a common road map for peace and security in the region.

The Burrell letter stressed what had been agreed with regard to strengthening cooperation with regard to the organization of elections in Libya, the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, the withdrawal of foreign combatants, the strengthening of border management and the strengthening of regional cooperation with southern Libya and neighbouring States.

In his letter, Burrell welcomed the proposal by Vice-President to continue the Libyan-European dialogue on peace and security issues and that the European Union was working in that direction and was sending a delegation to Tripoli to follow up the dialogue, convinced by Europe of Libya's active role in stabilizing the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Sahel.
