According to an Israeli website, the United States of America has reneged on its intention to resume opening its consulate in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
On the grounds that the United States does not want to open a second front on the resumption of the opening of the consulate to Israel, the Times of Israel website states that America has decided to freeze the resumption of the opening of its consulate in the occupied city of Jerusalem, which serves Palestinians.
According to a White House official, Israel is actively facing President Joe Biden's administration over the nuclear agreement with Iran, which Washington does not want to open a second conflict front with Tel Aviv.
Nevertheless, no final decision had been taken, and the official line of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued to state that the Biden administration was moving ahead with the process of reopening the consulate in Jerusalem, despite the American source's statement that the resumption of the opening of the United States consulate in Jerusalem had begun.
The decision of former US President Donald Trump in 2019 did not lead to the closure of the consulate building on Agron Street in West Jerusalem altogether, as US diplomats continued to work there, albeit under the auspices of the newly formed Palestinian Affairs Unit.
Nevertheless, it is a subdivision of the United States Embassy in the city, which the Palestinians saw as a reduction in their relations with the United States.
