For its influence on the file for the removal of mercenaries and foreign troops from Libya, with less than two weeks to go since the presidential election began, Libyan experts have welcomed the results of the Libyan Joint Military Commission's "5 + 5" tour in Russia and Turkey.

The tour of the Committee (5 + 5) over the past two days has witnessed a joint confirmation by Russia and Turkey of their commitment to Libya's sovereignty and the removal of mercenaries from Libya, plunged into chaos for about a decade.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, at the Ministry's Moscow headquarters, held an extensive meeting with the Committee in the presence of members of the United Nations Mission and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence of Russia.

In a statement, Major General Khalid Mahjoub, Director of the Libyan Army Counselling Department, said that the meeting had addressed the Geneva Ceasefire Agreement and its provisions, the most important of which was the removal of foreign forces and mercenaries to achieve Libyan sovereignty.

He noted the Russian Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs's welcome to the Commission, and what it had achieved to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire, the opening of the coastal road and demining, and stressed Russia's willingness to contribute to the stability of Libya and the success of the Military Commission's work.

In conjunction with the meetings of the 5 + 5 Committee, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a phone call to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

According to the Kremlin statement, both sides agreed that there were no alternatives to a political settlement in Libya and that the elections would contribute to the restoration of the Libyan State.

The Joint Commission also held extensive meetings with observers who arrived in Libya to discuss the mechanism for their work, which was to begin as soon as mercenaries were brought out.

The role of the observers, as announced, would be to oversee the implementation of the Anar ceasefire and the exit of mercenaries, as well as to oversee the elections.
