After the video - tech meeting between Putin and Biden, which is about tension between NATO - backed Moscow and Ukraine, and in his first statement after a meeting with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin considered that Russia had the right to defend its security.

"Russia has a peaceful foreign policy, but it has the right to defend its security," Putin said at a press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Putin considered that leaving NATO near its borders without a response would be "criminal inaction," but felt that his talks with Biden were "constructive."

The US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, said President Joe Biden had not made any "pledges or concessions" to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on his requests.

Adding that Biden had informed the Russian President "that we would provide additional defense equipment to the Ukrainians," Sullivan stated, following discussions by the Presidents of America and Russia, that Putin would speak on Thursday with the Ukrainian President.

He continued: "While we are keen to maintain the diplomatic path, we are working on alternative plans to respond to any Russian escalation."

The US official explained that Biden had not made any "pledges or concessions" to Putin on his requests, highlighting that the two Presidents had agreed to "continue their discussions on several files."
