Referring to economic and political sanctions among them, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said today that NATO had multiple options if Russia used force against Ukraine.
This came at a press conference following the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Latvia, in which Stoltenberg said: "We have multiple options to ensure that Russia will face serious consequences if force is used against Ukraine, including economic and political sanctions."
He added that Ukraine's accession to the Alliance "takes place by consensus among Member States," adding that "Russia has no right to intervene in this matter."
In a related context, the EU Foreign Policy Commissioner, Josep Burrell, earlier considered that any "hostile" move against Ukraine would be met with a "strong reaction," pointing out that the EU supports the unity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
