While Moscow took the initiative to accuse Kiev and its Western allies of "provocation," US Secretary of State Anthony Plinkin warned that any new Russian "aggression" against Ukraine would call for a "dangerous" response.
During a press conference with his Latvian counterpart, Edgars Rinkevics, on the sidelines of a NATO meeting, Plinkin asserted that "any upward movements by Russia will be of great concern to the United States and Latvia."
Plinkin's warning comes as Ukraine has called on its allies to move quickly to prevent Russia from "invading" its territory, stressing that Moscow may begin an offensive "in the blink of an eye" at a time when Russian troop movements near the border with Ukraine are causing concern to the West.
During an online press conference, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Koleba, said, "It's best to move now, not later," to "rein in Russia."
According to Koleba, Russia mobilized 115,000 military personnel at its border with Ukraine, in the Crimean peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014, and in the separatist-controlled Ukrainian areas in the east of the country.
He added: "What we see as extremely dangerous, Russia has deployed a large military force near the Ukrainian border, including tanks, artillery systems, electronic warfare systems, air and naval forces."
This military deployment enabled Russia to launch an attack on his country "in the blink of an eye."
Coliba confirmed that his country would respond in the event of an attack against it, noting that "we are determined to defend our territory. Our country is stronger and our army is immeasurably stronger than it was in 2014. "
In recent weeks, the United States, NATO and the European Union have continued to express concerns about Russian troop movements at Ukraine's borders, fearing a possible "invasion."
Russia has repeatedly denied having any plan in place in this direction, accusing Ukraine and its Western allies of increasing "provocations."
