Noting that it had raised its flag on the building again, an official of the Taliban government said that the United Arab Emirates had reopened its embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

"The United Arab Emirates has reopened its embassy in Kabul and raised its flag," the Government's deputy spokesman, Ahmedullah Akouki, explained today.

He continued, tweeting on his official Twitter account: "What the UAE has done is a good step leading to other positive steps," adding: "The Emirates and Afghanistan already have good relations that we need to strengthen."

The United Arab Emirates has reportedly sent several aircraft carrying medical and food aid to the capital Kabul since the outbreak of the humanitarian crisis caused by the Taliban's war against former government forces, the end of July.

The Emirates also temporarily hosted Afghan families after being evacuated after the Taliban took power in Kabul, mid - August.

On 7 September, the Taliban announced the formation of an interim government in Afghanistan.

This followed the extension of its control over the capital, Kabul, in mid-August, and the takeover of power from the previous government, following the withdrawal of the United States of America and its allies from the country.
