When meeting in Cairo with American water expert Matthew Parks, the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources, Mohamed Abdel Ati, stressed that "the Ethiopian side is dealing with the crisis of the Ennahda dam by suggesting and pretending to have to fill in as a construction necessity and for the purpose of generating electricity, which is contrary to the truth."

The Egyptian Minister stressed that "any water shortage will affect workers in the agricultural sector; This will cause social problems and security instability in the region, increase illegal migration, "as well as negatively affect the security of the region.

According to the statement by the Ministry of Water Resources, "the Ethiopian side deliberately issues false statements and manages the dam individually, causing significant damage to my downstream State, which costs huge amounts of billions of dollars to try to mitigate the negative effects of these unilateral actions, which have caused confusion in the river system."

The Egyptian Minister stated that his country had "made numerous attempts to build confidence during the negotiation stages, but this was not matched in good faith by the Ethiopian side.""The Ethiopian side has filled in over the past year, although the dam turbines are not ready to generate electricity, and the same scenario has been repeated this year, also without electricity generation, as the dam's early generation turbines have not been operational.""This raises many questions about Ethiopia's insistence on filling the dam without generating electricity."

It should be recalled that last Monday, the Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, forgave Shoukry, stressed the need to resume the track of the Nahda Dam negotiations as soon as possible.

During a meeting with his United States counterpart, Anthony Plinkin, just prior to the strategic dialogue between Egypt and the United States, my delegation stressed "the need to resume the course of negotiations as soon as possible with a view to reaching a legally binding agreement on the filling and operation of the Nahda Dam in a manner that would serve the interests of the three countries and safeguard Egypt's water rights."
