During a press conference in Ankara, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ould Chaouwoğlu, today stressed the need for calm after the recent military escalation on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border.

Accusing Armenia of standing behind tensions in the region, Chawosh Oglu said that his country would always stand next to Azerbaijan and "we will not leave it alone in the face of any difficulties," noting that "after the ceasefire Armenia sent troops sneaking into Azerbaijani territory and carried out attacks."

The Turkish Minister considered that Baku had arrested them from Armenia as "intruders, not prisoners," stressing the need for calm but accusing Armenia itself of being behind increased tensions in the region.

The Armenian Ministry of Defence stated that 12 of its soldiers had been captured in battles on the border with Azerbaijan, while the Armenian Ambassador to Russia, Vardan Toganian, said that the situation on his country's border with Azerbaijan was serious.

Hours later, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced that the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides, following negotiations by the Russian Minister of Defence, Sergei Shoigu, and the Ministers of Defence of the two countries, had stopped their clashes in the Mount Kilisali area.
