Today, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterich at the conclusion of Minister Shoukry's current visit to New York.

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Minister Shoukry had opened the meeting by congratulating the Secretary-General on the successful opening of the 76th session of the General Assembly, despite the circumstances associated with the Corona pandemic and the events and deliberations in the work of the General Assembly focused on advancing the mechanisms of multilateral action and strengthening the architecture of international peace and security.

The Minister also expressed Egypt's appreciation and support for the efforts of the Secretary-General, the United Nations and its specialized agencies in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and the achievement of development goals

SHOUKRYs also renewed Egypt's position on the issue of the Al-Nahda dam and the need to reach a legally binding agreement on the operation and filling of the dam, in a manner that takes into account the interests of all parties.

SHOUKRYs go to the Secretary-General of the United Nations for his national efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development, as well as for Egypt's active involvement in the promotion of human rights, particularly with the launching of the National Human Rights Strategy as Egypt's first integrated long-term human rights strategy.

The meeting also addressed the review of the whole range of regional files and issues in the region. The meeting had an exchange of views on the matter, agreeing on the importance of continuing to work towards the advancement of crisis resolution with a view to achieving the desired stability.
