Florence Barley, the French Minister of Defence, recalled today that NATO's primary objective is not to confront China, but to protect Europe.

According to Florence Barley, "Paris and Berlin have decided to start reviewing the strategic NATO concept with its allies, and the Alliance does not mean that one is held hostage to the interests of another."

The French Minister of Defence added: "Should we pull out of NATO and close the door? I do not believe that we should adopt this step, and that events have demonstrated the lack of coordination that we have always emphasized among the members of the Alliance. "

Regarding the "Occos" security pact between America, Australia and Britain, and the cancellation by Canberra of the French submarine purchase deal, the Minister insisted that Australia had not informed France, but that the issue was a complete surprise.
