Lieutenant General Abdelfattah Burhan, President of the Sudan Transitional Sovereignty Council, commended the role of the United Nations in supporting the political transition and achieving comprehensive peace and stability in the Sudan.

In the same vein, during his meeting today with the head of the United Nations Integrated Transitional Support Mission in the Sudan (UNMIS), he discussed the coordination of efforts between the Government of the Sudan and the United Nations Mission for a successful transition and democratization.

In his remarks, the head of the United Nations mission, Volker Berts, explained that the meeting had addressed the implementation of the security arrangements under the Juba Peace Agreement, as well as the development services, noting that the meeting had addressed the issue of coordination between the Government of the Sudan and donor countries in support of the transition period, concluding that the meeting had discussed all issues of mutual concern to the Sudan and the United Nations mission before it went to New York to brief the International Security Council Council Council next week.
