A day after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan ended, US President Joe Biden sent a message to the American people.
Stressing the need not to forget all American sacrifices over the past years, Biden called the evacuation from Afghanistan "a remarkable success."
Biden said: "We faced threats in Afghanistan from last March until the start of evacuations, and we believe that between 100 and 200 Americans remained in Afghanistan, mostly with dual nationalities."
With regard to the Taliban, the President of the United States stressed that the movement "has committed itself publicly and before all to ensuring a safe passage, but we will await action."
He stressed that the United States would "remain committed" to bringing the remaining Americans out of Afghanistan, having succeeded with partners in evacuating more than 100,000 Afghans, a precedent in history, as he put it.
Biden asserted that his choice was either to "leave or step up," and that "Afghanistan could not have been better evacuated."
Biden revealed the "huge" tunnels in Afghanistan: "We've been spending 300 million dollars a day for 20 years in Afghanistan and I couldn't continue to waste."
