As part of efforts to ease tensions between neighbouring countries and expand cooperation across the Middle East, President Joe Biden paid tribute to the outcome of the summit hosted by the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

A White House statement said: "The United States continues to stand by the Iraqi partner as we work together to achieve greater stability throughout the Middle East. We remain committed to strengthening our bilateral relationship under the Strategic Framework Agreement. "

The statement added: "When Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi and I met in the Oval Office last month, we discussed Iraq's important role in the region and the significant efforts led by the Government of Iraq, including the Kurdistan regional government, to improve and strengthen relations between Iraq and its neighbours."

The White House statement concluded by saying: "Diplomacy must be the primary instrument of our foreign policy, and we are grateful for having partners that share this vision."
