Against the backdrop of the departure of President Ashraf Ghani, the announcement of his resignation, the Taliban control of the presidential palace and most of the country, the UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting on the situation in Afghanistan tomorrow.

With the Taliban attacking large cities in the country, the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated in recent weeks. Two senior Taliban leaders in Kabul have said that the Taliban militants took control of the presidential palace in Afghanistan after President Ashraf Ghani left the country.

Meanwhile, reports have revealed the president's departure from the country and an influx of MDC fighters into the capital. According to an Afghan presidential source, President Ashraf Ghani agreed to resign in the context of the crisis situation in the country, explaining that reports of agreement among the Afghan parties on the selection of former Interior Minister Ali Ahmed Jalali to head an interim Government were just "commonplace."
