In a baseless and regrettable move, a spokesman for the British Foreign Office described a ban on entry into Russia on a number of British citizens.
The speaker stated, "This step is unfounded, and it is regrettable as it contradicts the conscious and transparent process used in Britain, when applying anti-corruption sanctions and those used to protect human rights."
Yesterday Monday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that: In December 2020 and April 2021, the British Government announced personal sanctions against Russian citizens for "alleged human rights violations" in Chechnya, as well as in the framework of the "Statement on Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions" approved by the British Parliament.
Russian Foreign Affairs considered these to be: "The baseless attacks by London are clear evidence of the true intentions of the country's leadership to continue to build its course in relation to the Russian trend, namely the desire to carry out subversive activities on the bilateral track."
The Deputy Director of the Russian Foreign Information and Press Service, Nikolai Lakhonin, said that, in response to these unfriendly actions by the British authorities and within the framework of the principle of reciprocity, "the Russian side has taken a decision to impose personal sanctions against an appropriate number of British representatives deeply involved in anti-Russian activities," without revealing their number.
It has been explained to Akhunin that Moscow is closing access to Russian territory for these persons, in accordance with the federal law establishing the regime for the entry and departure of Russia.
He added: "We renew our call for the leadership of Britain to abandon its unjustified hostile approach to our country, warning that no unfriendly steps will remain without adequate and proportionate response.
Britain and the European Union have imposed sanctions on Russia following the poisoning of former Russian spy Skripal and his daughter in London in 2018.
