Threatening that his country "knows" how to respond, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett declared that there was "evidence" that Iran was involved in the attack on an Israeli - operated oil tanker in the Arabian Sea days ago.

An oil tanker operated by Israeli billionaire Eyal Afar was attacked in the Arabian Sea on Thursday evening, killing two members of the ship's crew, one Romanian and one British.

During the weekly government meeting, Bennett responded to Iran's denial that it was behind the attack on the tanker: "Intelligence evidence exists, and we expect the international community to explain to the Iranian regime that it has made a terrible mistake."

He continued: "In any case, we know how to send a message to Iran in our own way."

Earlier Sunday, Iran rejected Israel's accusations of being behind the attack by its foreign spokesman Saeed Khatib Zadeh.

Bennett criticized Iran's "cowardly escape" from responsibility, stating that he could "confirm that it was Iran that carried out the attack on the ship."

The Israeli Prime Minister considered Iran's "aggressive behaviour dangerous not only to Israel but also to global interests, freedom of navigation and international trade."
